What it is meant to be
Card issuing is the outgoing direction taken one step further than a
card payout: instead of pushing money to a card a user
already holds, the user is issued a card of their own and spends directly from a
stablecoin balance.
What is still open
- Which card scheme and issuing partner, and therefore which countries are open.
- Whether cards are virtual only, or physical as well.
- How the balance is funded and held, and who is the account holder of record.
- The identity requirements, which are stricter for issuing than for a one-off
card payment.
Everything that is live today on the card rail - buying with a card, and paying out
to one - is on On/off ramps with cards.
